This is where I started
So when I first seriously started thinking about a dress that I would actually wear to my own wedding, the things I absolutely knew were:
No strapless No train No volume
I liked the idea of a simple lace dress with a wide ribbon sash (the image in my head was either a cream or lilac sash)
Then one day, I was watching Say Yes to the Dress, saw a flash of this dress, and screencapped it.
It was exactly what I had pictured in my mind, but it wasn't something I'd ever seen anyone wear before.
Well, let's be realistic: it was probably in my subconscious mind from watching SYTTD; this dress is part of one of their "filler" shots. Regardless, I loved the idea, but held no illusions about ever being able to afford or willing to purchase a designer wedding dress.

Something like this Maggie Sottero, minus the train, appealed to me.
But I wasn't finding anything that actually fit my fantasy of being completely train-less and within a feasible price range.
So ultimately, I grew away from the idea, and started over in my search.
That's when I found what ended up being my top two.
This was my second choice. It was the first one of this sort of style (halter; empire-ish waistline; flowing skirt) that I found, and
I knew that was the direction I wanted to keep looking in.

And this is officially The Dress:
I ordered it on a Saturday and it arrived by Wednesday afternoon, which was a very nice surprise :)
It's super super soft (seriously, omg), and the beading across the midsection is even lovelier in person.
I was already intending to get more fit between now and next June, but even carrying a little more "me" than I'd like, it's extremely forgiving.
Of course it will need to be hemmed once I find my shoes (side note -- for really tall people, this is a very accomodating garment;even while wearing heels that make me 5'10"-ish, there were still a few inches hitting the ground), and I'd like to get the very bottom of the neckline closed up just a tad.
But those minor things aside, it's completely perfect for me :)
Made by Betsy & Adam; I found it through Dillard's.
